As a speaker, writer, and storyteller, I am fueled and inspired by the farming and ranching families I meet along the dusty trail. I love their stories so much, I started a podcast called, "The Heart of Rural America," where I interview innovators, entrepreneurs, doers, creators, thinkers, and agriculturalists on the show. What I've learned is their stories are built upon generations of family history, a legacy built, hard work ethic, faith, tradition, family values, and eyes on the future children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren and beyond.
Many years ago, I had the opportunity to write a coffee table book detailing the family history of the iconic VanNewkirk Hereford ranch in Nebraska. The book included interviews from family members, geneology, important dates, and changes in the family tree. It was a rewarding experience, and through that project, I could see the real value of writing down these details to preserve for future generations.
Interviewing my own grandfather, Alvin Nolz, before his passing in 2019, it suddenly became very real to me how special these memories really are.
