From My YouTube Channel: An Interview With Laura Ingalls Wilder

Yesterday, at the Missouri State Fair, Laura Ingalls Wilder showed up to my book reading, and all my childhood dreams came to life!

Kathleen Boswell plays the part of Laura on behalf of the The State Historical Society of Missouri, and when she strolled into the room in her 1947-Laura costume, I just had to interview her to hear more about her story and why she believes preserving American historical is so vitally important.

We absolutely love the lessons in “Little House on the Prairie,” and in our homeschool classroom, we have spent a great deal of time studying that time period to understand he pioneers once lived on the prairie.

If you didn’t know, in 2018, the American Library Association voted unanimously to strip Laura Ingalls Wilder's name from a major children's literature award over cultural references that are no longer politically correct but were clearly a reflection of the sentiments at the time.

The Association for Library Service to Children says the Laura Ingalls Wilder Award will now be known as the Children's Literature Legacy Award. This award was established in 1954, and Laura was the first recipient of the award, which was intended to honor books published in the U.S. that have had a big impact on children's literature.

This interview sparked a larger discussion with my friend, Trent Loos, on banned books and protecting rich and important literature like the ”Little House on the Prairie” series. The segments will air soon on Rural Route Radio and BEK News. Stay tuned!

And here’s your reminder to pick up a book today and read a story to your children!
